Dark Mountain (1944)

The Pine-Thomas production directed by William Berke stars Robert Lowrey as Don Bradley, Ellen Drew as Kay Downey, and Regis Toomey as Steve Downey in a love triangle. Kay marries Steve not knowing he is a gangster and makes his living selling stolen goods. Three murders result and being the wife she is implicated as being part of the crimes. She escapes to Don a park ranger who hides her out in a deserted cabin but Steve follows her. Don finally puts two and two together and realizes that she is hiding her husband. A high speed car chase follows where Don’s ranger partner’s dog chases the car, jumps in the open back window, and bites Steve causing him to crash and burn. Kay and Don of course live happily ever after. This is just an average run of the mill drama that is somewhat predictable and moves rather slowly. The film and sound quality are average. It is available from Alpha Video (ALP 4264D) at a low cost. (**)
